Town of Richford

The Town of Richford consists of 38.17 square miles and is located at the northeast corner of the County. Richford is bordered by Broome County to the east, Cortland County to the north, Tompkins County to the west, and the Town of Berkshire to the south. The center of town is the intersection of NYS Routes 38 and 79 in the hamlet of Richford and residents travel to all four points of the compass for work. The 2000 Census states that the population is 1,170. The Michigan Hill State Forest encompasses 25% of the Town and is great for hiking and cross-country skiing. The Town hosts an annual potato festival and boasts about being the birthplace of John D. Rockefeller. Some of the highest elevations in the County of 1,400 feet or more can be found in Richford.

Town of Berkshire

The Town of Berkshire (www.berkshireny.com) consists of 30.22 square miles and is located in the northeast section of the County. It is bordered by the Town of Richford to the north, Broome County to the east, the Town of Newark Valley to the south, and Tompkins County to the west. The 2000 Census stated that the population was 1,366. The hamlet of Berkshire on Route 38 has the small town USA charm with its skyline of multiple church steeples.

Town of Tioga

The Town of Tioga consists of 58.68 square miles and is located in the center of the County. The Susquehanna River forms the southern border, the Town and Village of Owego are to the east, the Town of Candor to the north, and the Town of Barton to the west. The 2000 Census says that the population was 4,840 and the primary industry is agriculture. The Town recently acquired the privately owned Ransom Park as a public park that hosts many community picnics and the annual Pumpkin Festival. 

Village of Spencer

The Village of Spencer (www.s-ve.com) consists of 1.03 square miles within the Town and has a population of 731 according to the 2000 Census. NYS Routes 96 and 34 merge in the center of the Village at Tioga State Bank's headquarters. The Village hosts the Annual Spencer Picnic every year in August and Nichols Pond provides a quaint natural setting in the Village center.
