The Jail House Restaurant: This jail building was attached to the sheriff’s residence, constructed in 1910, replacing a previous Jail. The architect was T.I. Lacey of Binghamton. The cell work is the Pauly System, which has a locking device, whereby the cells may be all locked and unlocked by the movement of one lever. After the county built a new jail off Rt. 38 in Owego in 1996, this one was sold to contractor, Bruce Nelson for $20,000. By 2000, he renovated part of the second and third floors into unique, upscale apartments. The first and second floors were also renovated to include the Jail House Restaurant, which is reopening at the end of August, 2007 with a new business owner.
