3rd Friday Art Walk begins in Owego on May 16th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to be ongoing on the third Friday of each month throughout the year. In a three block walkable area, the Owego Art Walk is a great Friday night destination. Ten galleries will open for the night to feature new artists each month. Unique and unusual sites include 2 new second story galleries over Riverow Stores, a gallery in a coffee house, a gallery with a view of the river in one of the historic houses on Front Street and many more. Art! Music! And Refreshments! at each site. In addition, several of the sites will feature art videos from the Experimental TV Center which since 1971 has offered programs in support of the media arts, sponsorship assistance for independent media and film artists. Sites will be marked with sandwich boards and balloons and brochures with maps to find galleries on Front Street and Lake Street and restaurants nearby. Artists will display and discuss their works. In some venues, demonstrations or performing arts will be featured. Come and join the fun in our picturesque historic village on the Susquehanna River at exit 64 off Route 17.

Taste the sound of many different models of harps, from large to small. Meredith Kohn Bocek of The Harp Studio will play several harps and discuss the aspects of each harp. Learn about harps, meet harpists, and enjoy gastronomical goodies. Reservations highly suggested. We'll ride Marshland Road and Holmes Avenue to Apalachin and return.
Frances Slocum, a white child of the American Revolution, was stolen from her Quaker family in 1778 by raiding Delaware Indians. Her family would not be reunited with her for nearly 60 years. The film production of the story of her life includes her travels through our local area and is full of incredible imagery that documents history of Revolutionary War time in our region. Producer Bill Bachman and the actress who portrays Frances Slocum later in life, Florence Howanitz, will come to present the film and answer questions about this important piece of history.
$10 for the public, $8 for SRAC members, and $6 for children. Barb Cole and LIVE Animals! A presentation every third Thursday of the month starting in May and will include many topics throughout he year to include discussions on owls and other large birds, porcupines, deer, reptiles, bats, water fowl, garden birds and more!
$3 for children under 18, $5 for adults and $3 for SRAC members. Guests will think they have gone back in time as they are served tea, cookies, cakes, and other delicacies in an authentically designed Victorian tea room. Drink tea served from a 100 year old silver teapot while an authentically dressed living historian takes participants back in time to Miss Maggies's School of Victorian Etiquette.
Teas will consist of four gourmet courses appropriately themed by season. Be sure to stop by the museum to pick up your menu. $15. Call for reservations, limited seats available. Bring a wagon, walk around and enjoy looking at our beautiful historic village while browsing many garage sales. The Tillers and Toilers Garden Club will be selling plants on the village green along with their own yard sale.
Cairns and Stone Piles! It is not uncommon when hiking in local conservation lands, town forests, and state parks in northeastern United States to discover old stone cairns and stone piles. It is estimated that there are over 100,000 just in New England alone. Who built them, when, and why? Ted Keir, local archaeologist and historian will take us back in time with a slide presentation and lecture on "Stone Piles."
Doors open to the lecture area at 6 pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for SRAC members and children. Refreshments will be available. Mansfield University history professor Karen Guenther, whose book, "Sports in Pennsylvania," explores the ways sports from Native American contests to today's big business has impacted social, cultural and economic history of the state.
Program is free and books will be available for purchase and signing. The third film in the series. The Whale Rider, will be shown with discussion and popcorn!
Silent Auction from 10 am - 4 pm with a live Auction starting at 5 pm. Cocktail Hour from 4 -5 pm Tickets may be purchased for $5 for the Cocktail Hour.
"Acoustic Brew" will be playing the blues and classic rock on the deck.
Registration is from 8-9 am.
Fee is $10, and $5 for kids with parents. Free water bottles and 2 lucky winners will win a Polar Heart Rate monitor, all from Advantage Sport & Fitness. The captain and crew tournament begins at 1 pm with a shotgun start. There will be two flights, Open, and Mixed (men play white tees, ladies play the red.) The cost is $70 per person, and includes greens fees, cart, BBQ, beverages and prizes.
